Terence Crawford hasn't shied away from a possible meeting against Canelo Alvarez; indeed the Omaha, Nebraska native has always welcomed the idea.
Saul Alvarez on the other hand had been pretty coy on the subject; even snobbish sometimes.
The Undisputed Middleweight champion had initially shrugged off the prospects of that encounter and labelled it as " not a priority ".
But later, Canelo expressed readiness to honour the bout should the right chords be struck.
Recent indications however, suggest that the Canelo-Crawford bout could hold in December 2024 or January 2025 Stateside.
Turki Alalshikh who's working closely with Crawford on his August 3rd showdown against Israil Madrimov has expressed keen interest in that bout : " I'm working on it being Canelo, but it'll still be a big fight for Crawford. I'll discuss names with him", Alalshikh revealed.
Both fighters should be primed for the mega bout if it actually happens within the proposed time frame: Canelo Alvarez is just coming off a dominant win over rugged Jaime Munguia and Crawford is in feverish preparations for Madrimov.
Stylistically, the bout tilts towards Crawford: looking at his repertoire and that massive victory over rival Errol Spence.
In the Spence fight, "Bud " dismissed all arguments of size and power: he bulldozed and manhandled Spence in that ring- beating him in all departments.
Also, Crawford's versatility could be a huge factor: the undisputed welterweight king fights comfortably as an orthodox and also as a southpaw. This might pose problems for Canelo.
Canelo justifiably won fair and square against Munguia, but his defence was quite easily penetrated and an accurate puncher like Crawford would do more damage.
Whether Crawford can stand Canelo's power, which even Bivol attested to, is another point.
Can the fight be sealed?
Well, Turki Alalshikh can definitely do the magic: the gentleman has consistently delivered.
Whatever pans out , this would definitely be a spectacle to behold.
