On the undercard of the classic and highly entertaining Fury-Usyk bill dubbed "Ring Of Fire ", German heavyweight Agit Kabayel produced a punch perfect display against Cuba’s Frank Sanchez at the Kingdom Arena, Riyadh.
Kabayel who last fought at the same venue in December last year, started quickly and eventually stopped the credible Sanchez (24-1, 17 KOs) in the seventh with a well placed gut shot, scoring a knockout victory.
An elated Kabayel told reporters, “We trained for this result, you saw my plan, we won the fight and I am happy.”
Born in Leverkusen and based in Bochum, Kabayel now ( 25-0) had dispatched off Russian giant heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov on the Anthony Joshua-Francis Ngannou undercard last December in a bout where he was deemed the underdog; not much different from his encounter with Sanchez.
And as things stand currently, he quite justifiably finds himself as one of the heavyweight division’s most in-form fighters: a candidate for the very zenith.
As to why he's almost always pitched as the underdog, Agit retorted, "I don’t know why, people must not like me. Every fight I am the underdog. It’s the second time we shocked the world. Who’s next? I’m ready.”
Until Riyadh Season’s ambitious unofficial heavyweight round-robin was rolled out, Kabayel, the current WBC Intercontinental, WBO NABO, NABF and WBA Intercontinental champion, had fought mainly in his home country of Germany.
“When German TV wants to make a big fight, I’ll be ready to fight in Germany.” Kabayel continued. “We will see, I hate trash talk, you know. I come only for the sport. We will see who is next, let’s go. I don’t know who I will fight next," he added.
The heavyweight division is wide open, and for a dark horse like Kabayel, a big opportunity might come calling sooner than expected
