Ardreal Holmes: Aiming For The Top Of The 154-Pound Division

Ardreal Holmes has been steadily progressing as an undefeated prospect in the 154-pound weight class, and his last two wins have played a crucial role in his development.

Showtime, as part of their prospect series "ShoBox: The New Generation," broadcasted Holmes' victories over Vernon Brown and Ismael Villarreal. However, Holmes acknowledged that his upcoming fight against Wendy Toussaint carries even greater significance. The prospect will have the chance to show his skill and heart for boxing in his home state of Michigan, in front of his local fans.

Holmes (13-0, 5 KOs) and Toussaint (14-1, 6 KOs) are set to face off in a 10-round co-feature bout, preceding Shields' defense of her IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO middleweight titles against Maricela Cornejo in the main event at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit. The junior middleweight clash between Holmes and Toussaint, as well as the Shields-Cornejo fight, will be streamed on DAZN, with coverage beginning at 9 p.m. EDT.

Expressing his excitement during a press conference at Little Caesars Arena, Holmes emphasized the significance of fighting in Michigan and his desire to impress the local crowd.

"I’m really happy that everyone came out and that Flint and Detroit are gonna get to watch us on Saturday. Holmes said during a press conference Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena. “This is a Michigan thing. It’s a Michigan card. We all want to show out."

Currently ranked 15th among the WBO's junior middleweight contenders, Holmes aims to eventually vie for one of Jermell Charlo's four championship belts in the division. Toussaint, while unranked by the IBF, WBA, WBC, or WBO, suffered his only loss against top contender Charles Conwell (18-0, 13 KOs), who defeated him by a ninth-round stoppage in October 2020, aired by Showtime from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

"I know I have to look impressive and open the door for me to eventually fight for a world title. I’m taking it one fight at a time, but I’m coming for the top of the division."
