Caleb Plant Set To Return Against Trevor McCumby In August

Caleb Plant is set for his ring return. The former IBF super middleweight Champion is staging a comeback against unbeaten fringe contender Trevor McCumby on August 17th at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.

Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) looks to revive his career, having lost two out of his last three fights, and he needs a tune-up now to get his career moving again.

He lost to David Benavidez by a twelve round unanimous in his last fight on November 25, 2023, and seemed quite overmatched in that contest.

Ranked #8 WBC and #10 WBA, Plant hasn’t won a fight in two years since stopping Anthony Dirrell in the ninth round on October 15, 2022.

On November 6, 2021, Plant was stopped in round 11 by undisputed champion Saul "Canelo " Alvarez; after putting up a solid challenge in the earlier goings during the fight - losing his IBF title in the process.

Despite being out of the ring Plant has been in the news for rather unfortunate reasons.

Last year at the Spence Crawford weigh-in the Nashville born boxer was involved in an altercation with Jermall Charlo- even slapping him.

Plant has also engaged troubled boxer Ryan Garcia in some unpleasant confrontations recently.

Trevor McCumby, 31, (28-0, 21 KOs) is ranked #11 WBA, and has largely faced average opposition during his 14-year professional career.

The Caleb Plant bout affords him the overture to prove his worth and mettle against a marquee opponent.

A win against Plant would do Trevor a world of good.

But Plant can’t afford to get beaten by this level of opponent because he’s already dropped down the rankings and spotlight due to his 1-2 record in his last three fights.

Should be an entertaining scrap; and a healthy comeback for " Sweet Hands" Plant.
