Canelo- Crawford Out Of The Picture For Now

The proposed mega fight between Mexican Superstar Saul " Canelo " Alvarez and Current WBA Super Welterweight title holder Terence "Bud " Crawford seems to have fizzled out as the major players are at variance with one another.

After rumours and debates on the dream bout kept fueling, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh came out and expressed strong interest in staging the fight.

But his recent statement pours copious amounts of cold water on the project.

Canelo will now not be facing Terence Crawford. His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has said he has given up now on trying to make that fight.

Excellency Turki Alalshikh said: “I decided to disregard the Canelo fight, as I don't want it anymore. Instead, I will be focusing for the US market with bigger fights, especially for the legend Crawford.”

 To this Canelo retorted:

Canelo Alvarez responds to His Excellency Turki Alalshikh's statement that he is no longer interested in arranging the Terence Crawford fight: “I’m not asking for that fight. I think Teofimo Lopez deserves it more than me. My response to Turki is this, yesterday they text me to talk about the Crawford fight in February and I said, ‘I’m not gonna talk about any other fight, I’m focused 100% on this [Edgar Berlanga] fight.’ I respect Turki, but if he wants to work with me, it needs to be my way.”

So just as many people thought, when his Excellency Turki Alalshikh said earlier today that he is moving away from the idea of Crawford vs Canelo, it would be because of Canelo.

So at this juncture that bout is off - at least for now.

Crawford (41-0, 31Kos) is just coming off a victory over previously undefeated Israil Madrimov and Canelo ( 61-2-2,39Kos) has just announced he's fighting Edgar Berlanga- much to the angst and displeasure of many bouts fans.

The tables could turn at any instance.

 Stay tuned.
