Conor Benn Ditches Eddie Hearn; Joins Zuffa Boxing

It's quite unexpected, some label a big time betrayal; but Contest cannot be bothered.

Conor Benn’s move to Zuffa Boxing is built around one night, not a multi-fight tie-up. According to Sports Illustrated, it is a one-fight agreement worth eight figures, giving him a high-paying appearance under the new banner without tying up his future.

Once the bout is done, he is free to sit back at the table and field offers on his own terms. The deal ends Benn’s long association with Matchroom Boxing, the promoter that had guided his career since his professional debut in 2016. Benn confirmed the move publicly, thanking Eddie Hearn and Matchroom for their role in his development and rise to headline status. “First and foremost, I want to thank Eddie and the entire team at Matchroom for everything they’ve done for me over the past decade,” Benn said. “From guiding me when I first turned pro, to headlining stadium shows.

They were not only with me during those highlight moments but stood shoulder to shoulder with me during the tough times.” Matchroom oversaw Benn’s progression from prospect to main-event attraction in the United Kingdom, including two stadium fights against Chris Eubank Jr. That relationship took on added significance in 2022, when Benn tested positive for a banned substance ahead of their originally scheduled bout. Hearn continued promoting Benn afterward, backing his return to active competition while scrutiny surrounding his career remained unresolved.

Now Benn enters a promotion, still establishing its identity in boxing, without committing himself beyond a single appearance.

“Zuffa Boxing presented me with an opportunity I simply couldn’t refuse,” Benn said. “I’m filled with excitement and hunger for what’s ahead with Zuffa Boxing. I want the legacy fights, the biggest nights, the biggest stages.” Zuffa Boxing is being launched under TKO Group Holdings in partnership with Sela, the Saudi entertainment company involved in several major boxing events in recent years. Benn joins a roster that includes IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia, heavyweight contender Efe Ajagba, and former world champion Mark Magsayo as the promotion begins assembling its active fighters.

Benn enters the agreement with a 24-1 record following his two fights with Eubank Jr., both of which drew large crowds at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Despite not yet holding a world title, he has established himself as one of Britain’s most reliable live draws.

The one-fight structure allows Benn to secure the largest purse of his career while retaining full control over his future. The reported eight-figure purse reflects Benn’s proven ability to headline major events rather than achievements at championship level. He has not won a world title. His recent stadium nights in the United Kingdom still proved he can sell tickets and carry a major card without needing a belt around his waist.
