Crawford: Spence Fight Is One That Boxing Needed To Have

Boxing often fails to provide the highly anticipated fights that capture widespread attention and become part of popular culture.

Since Mayweather's retirement in 2017, only a couple of fights have surpassed one million pay-per-view purchases including Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin's clash and the April bout between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.

Now, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford aim to become the next blockbuster fight when they face off in their eagerly awaited undisputed welterweight matchup on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, broadcasted on Showtime PPV.

This high-stakes, evenly-matched fight represents the most significant welterweight bout since Mayweather's victory over Manny Pacquiao in 2015, which broke revenue and PPV purchase records. Crawford stated that this fight will have a positive impact on boxing and will be a treat for the fans. He adds that it was the fight he desired, and he believes it's what the sport needed.

"It's going to be great for boxing. It's going to be great for the fans. This was the fight I wanted. This was the fight boxing needed. Two fighters putting everything on the line. Both in their primes and no blemishes on their record and letting it all go in one night," BoxingScene.com reported.

Regarding the fight's realization, Crawford hinted that he approached Spence directly, urging him to stop the delays and negotiations and get the fight done.

"What made the fight get over the hump? I just let him know what's up. Let's fight and get it done. Let's stop playing around and faulting everybody. I went to him man to man and told him let's come together and make this fight happen."

Crawford views this as the pivotal moment both fighters have been waiting for, aiming to defeat Spence convincingly and leave no doubts about the victor. Despite the magnitude of the event, Crawford feels no pressure, having faced similar situations numerous times throughout his career. He simply plans to rely on his skills and experience, doing what he has trained for his entire life.

"This is it. This is the moment we've both been waiting for. I want to make a statement by beating Errol Spence in tremendous fashion and leaving no doubt who was the victor. There is no pressure. I have been in this situation many times before. I just have to go out there and do what I know what to do. And do what I have been doing all of my life."
