Fernando Vargas Jr. Looking To Leave His Own Legacy In Boxing

Fernando Vargas, Jr. takes pride in following in his father's footsteps while forging his own path in the sport. He is grateful to share his journey of success with his family, including his two younger brothers.

Tonight, Vargas will face a late replacement opponent, Heber Rendon from Venezuela, at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California. This six-round bout is part of the MarvNation Promotions card.

At the age of 26, Vargas (8-0, 8 knockouts) resides and trains in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his last fight on February 11, he stopped Argentina's Geronimo Nahuel Sacco in the second round. Prior to that, he knocked out Alejandro Martinez, also in the second round. Impressively, none of Vargas' eight fights have gone beyond the third round. Although Rendon (20-4, 13 KOs) has suffered eight consecutive losses, he presents a significant step up in competition for Vargas.

Vargas considers himself fortunate to train alongside his brothers, Amado and Emiliano, both of whom are undefeated prospects under the guidance of their father, former two-time world junior middleweight champion Fernando Vargas.

"The thing with our relationship with our Dad is that we all want to be successful. We’re not reminded when to run. We don’t get told when to show up at the gym. We don’t tell our Dad we will show up, then don’t. We all push each other in the gym. We work hard and we want to be the best. We have that self-motivation, discipline, and drive to succeed. We want to leave our own legacy in the sport. We may have a difference of opinion at times, but we don’t take things personally and we know our Dad wants the best for us," he told BoxingScene.com.
