Jared Anderson has stated that he was not surprised by Joe Joyce's recent loss to Zhilei Zhang and believed it was bound to happen.
Zhang defeated Joyce in the sixth round, claiming his WBO Interim title and position as a mandatory challenger. Despite Joyce's reputation for durability, Zhang dominated the fight, breaking him down and proving that he could be hurt. Anderson, who has knocked out all of his fourteen opponents since turning pro, said that Joyce was bound to get beat against someone who could punch.
"Bound to happen, Joe Joyce gets hit a lot. So it was always bound to happen against somebody who can punch," told Tha Boxing Voice.
Anderson also shared his thoughts on how he would fare against Zhang, stating that it would be an easy fight for him as Zhang is slow and only strong. Despite being considered by many to be the future of the heavyweight division, Anderson has revealed that he does not plan to stick around in the sport for long and aims to reach the top of the division, make money, and retire in the next few years.
Anderson is wasting no time in chasing big fights, as he is scheduled to fight fellow unbeaten heavyweight Zhan Kossobutskiy on July 1 and potentially Arslanbek Makhmudov after that. Many believe that Joyce's defeat to Zhang has signaled the end of his career, with father time catching up to him. However, Joyce has activated his rematch clause and appears to be set to run it straight back.
