Jaron Ennis Battles David Avanesyan For IBF Welterweight Championship

Interim IBF Welterweight champion Jaron Ennis battles David Avanesyan for the main title this Saturday July 13.

The bout takes place at Wells Fargo Centre in Philadelphia.

Ennis became the interim champion after beating Karen Chukhadzhian in January 2023 at the Capital One Arena, Washington. The win against Chukhadzhian was a unanimous decision which didn't seem to impress many onlookers.

" Boots" went ahead to knockout Roiman Villa(23-1) in the tenth round July 2023 in Atlantic City.

While a showdown against Terence Crawford is still possible, Ennis( 31-0, 28 knockouts) cannot afford to underestimate Avanesyan ( 30-4-1).

The Philadelphia native aptly nicknamed "Boots" for his crunch and compact fighting style is undeniably elite, but is also coming off a one year layoff.

Ring rust could be a huge factor here.

And being a homecoming fight for him, Ennis can't falter.

Jaron Ennis signed up with Matchroom in April after leaving PBC and was originally scheduled to fight Cody Crowley who fell off after failing an eye test.

The Avanesyan bout should be a proper litmus test for " Boots" who many perceive to be the future of the welterweight division.

Avanesyan, based in the UK but hailing from Tabynskoe, Russia hasn’t fought since December last year when he stopped Serge Ambomo ( 11-55-3).

He lost to Terence Crawford in 2022 and has shared the ring with the likes of Shane Mosley and Lamont Peterson.

The bout is promoted by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing.

The bill also features a WBC women's Featherweight championship between Skye Nicholson and Dyana Vargas.
