Ken Buchanan who was nicknamed the fighting carpenter has been announced dead at the age of 77.
The Scottish professional boxer was an undisputed lightweight champion in 1971 and his name cannot be missed when mentioning top boxers in the early 1970s. In his professional career, Buchanan held a record of 61 wins and 8 losses with 27 wins coming by way of knockout.
Buchanan debuted on September 20, 1965, winning against Brian Tanks by knockout. In 1968 after winning twenty-three consecutively, he challenged and knocked out Maurice Cullen to become world classified lightweight challenger.
Buchanan announced his retirement in 1978 and in the year 2000, he was elected to the international boxing Hall of Fame. Two years later, in Scotland, he was inducted into the Scottish sports hall of fame.
