Meet Yomna Ayad: Egypt's First Female Boxer At The Olympics

Yomna Ayad has made history as the first female boxer from Egypt to qualify for the Olympic Games. 

 

 Full name Yomna Ahmed Rezk Abdalla Ayyad, the twenty one year old secured qualification to the Olympiad at the Dakar Championships in Senegal. 

 

 She defeated Coletivi Yetognon, Agerie Emagnu Bayew from Ethiopia and Fatma Zohra Abdelkader of Algeria before clinching silver to seal the historic Olympic qualification. 

 

 Atad, who is also a student at the Faculty of Physical Education at the Damietta University in Egypt, posted a landslide victory against her Spanish opponent at the Mediterranean Games in the Algerian city of Oran where she won the Bronze medal. 

 Three boxers are representing Egypt at this year’s Olympic Games: Omar El Awady, Abdelrahman Oraby and Yomna Ayad. 

 

 Yomna Ayad is set to compete against 21 year old Nigina Uktamova from Uzbekistan in the women's 54 kg category on Saturday July 27 .
