Prince Patel Challenges Joshua Clottey To A Bout

Prince Patel challenged Joshua Clottey after winning his Welterweight debut bout before a packed crowd at the Bukom Boxing Arena

As part of events that unfolded at the historic Fists Of Carnage bill that went on at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra last Saturday, British boxer Prince Patel actually called out former IBF Welterweight champion Joshua "The Hitter " Clottey.

Hardly had Patel ( 29-1-2, 24 Kos) completed his fourth round technical knockout over Benjamin Ashley ( 20-3, 17Kos) than he wound up calling out Clottey.

In his post-fight interview with Ring Announcer Samuel Opoku Amoah, Patel was emphatic and devoid of ambiguity, " I know Joshua is an ex- World champion and your legend but I want to fight him and give him a beating. I'll spank old Joshua Clottey right here before his people. Clottey is an Ex World Champion but I believe I'm better than him,"Patel claimed, after winning his first fight as a super lightweight.

Joshua initially accepted the challenge thinking it was for an exhibition. But after realising Patel wanted a real fight he said," No problem, I'll start training right away. I'm going to show him why I'm called the " Hitter."

Joshua Clottey has a record of 41 wins and 5 losses with 24 knockouts.

He has fought the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Diego "Chico" Coralles, Zab Judah, Gabriel Rosado, Shamone Alvarez, Anthony Mundine among others.

He won the IBF Welterweight World Title in 2008 by finishing off Zab Judah in round eight.

Clottey has never been knocked out in all five losses. His only knockdown was against Miguel Cotto to whom he lost a controversial split decision in June 2009.

Albeit, Prince Patel, a multiple WBO, UBO and IBF Intercontinental, and current IBO World champion says he'll be the first man to knockout Joshua Clottey, " Manny Pacquiao couldn't do it, I'll be the first man to do it," he vowed.

The last time Joshua Clottey fought was in 2019; beating Azizi Mponda.
