Queensberry has won the purse bid for a proposed WBO super middleweight world title fight between Hamzah Sheeraz and Janibek Alimkhanuly, securing the rights with a $1,001,809 bid.
The winning offer comfortably surpassed Top Rank’s $820,000 bid, putting Queensberry in position to promote the highly anticipated matchup.
The bout is being targeted for November 28 or December 5, with London, Birmingham or New York listed as the proposed locations. However, the date and venue have not yet been confirmed.
Sheeraz and Alimkhanuly now have a significant fight ahead of them in the super middleweight division, with the purse-bid result providing the next step toward getting the contest finalized.
For Queensberry, the successful bid gives the promotion control of the event after edging out Top Rank by nearly $182,000. Top Rank’s bid of $820,000 was ultimately not enough to secure the promotional rights.
The proposed fight also brings together two notable names at 168 pounds. Sheeraz will enter the contest as the WBO super middleweight world champion, while Alimkhanuly is set to challenge for the title.
At this stage, the exact location and date remain subject to confirmation. The options currently being discussed include two dates in late November or early December and three potential cities across the UK and United States.
With the purse bid now settled, attention will turn to the final arrangements for the fight, including the confirmed date and venue.
If everything is finalized as proposed, Sheeraz vs Alimkhanuly will be one of the key super middleweight matchups to watch as the year approaches its final weeks.
