Ryan Garcia: Balls For Big Bouts.

In April 2023, when most boxing "divas" were busy avoiding fights most desired by fans,  Ryan Garcia came to the rescue of our sport. The 25-year-old stepped up to the plate and challenged the dangerous Gervonta "Tank " Davis to a non-title grudge showdown. The bout, one of a kind, created the buzz and euphoria on a global level.

Though he lost to Tank amidst blame for quitting, to Garcia's credit, he took the fight and showed up. One thing lacking in boxing now is the reluctance of fighters to accept risky, competitive, high-stakes bouts.

But " KingRy" has shown once again that he's more than willing to get into the mix. Many boxers find it cumbersome to come back from a first career loss but Ryan is programmed differently. Having returned to winning ways against Oscar Duarte, Garcia ( 24-1-0) is set to face Devin " The Dream " Haney ( 31-0-0 ) for the latter's WBC Super Lightweight Championship which he wrested from Regis Prograis in December last year.

The duo have squared up in the amateurs six times; sharing three wins apiece, making their next meeting on April 20 at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, a truly intriguing one.

Indeed,  the build-up has been replete with diverse developments and controversies; from an old sparring footage to Garcia's health issues. Regardless of the outcome, Ryan Garcia deserves credit for being in such big fights in his prime.

Love him or loathe him,  " KingRy " has cojones for the big stages.
