Sheriff Quaye and Jacob Tetteh Laryea Retain WBO Africa Titles

Sheriff Quaye and Jacob Tetteh Laryea Retain WBO Africa Titles.

On a rainy Saturday night at the Accra Sports Stadium multi-purpose hall, boxing fans and enthusiasts alike were treated to an exciting array of boxing bouts.

The bill, put up by Manasseh Tagoe's Swavy Blu Boxing Promotions and Bronx Boxing Promotions was co headlined by the WBO Africa Super Welterweight championship between Jacob Tetteh Laryea and challenger Daniel Lartey as well as the WBO Africa Lightweight clash between neighbourhood rivals Sheriff Quaye and Michael Offei Dodoo.

Having won the WBO Africa strap last year against experienced Richmond Djarbeng, Laryea, a former national and WABU champion was mandated by WBO Africa representative Samir Captan to defend against the well travelled and resolute Daniel Lartey.

Despite being very good friends, the pair threw every iota of cordiality out of the window once hostilities commenced.

Lartey landed flurries and swinging hooks in the early goings but was stunned severally by the stiff jabs and straight rights from Tetteh Laryea.

The exchanges became heated and by the end of round two the challenger was huffing and puffing.

Laryea took over completely in round three and pummelled his opponent against the ropes until referee Roger Barnor stepped in to halt the onslaught.

Laryea nicknamed "Chorkor Fire " improves to 12-0 and at 30 years needs to pursue bigger challenges outside the shores of Ghana.

In the co- main event Sheriff Quaye put a number on a stubborn Michael Offei Dodoo of the Attoh Quarshie Gym.

Quaye, a two time WBO Africa champion started slowly but once he warmed himself into the fight, it was a tortuous beating for Dodoo.

To his credit, Dodoo did rock Quaye a number of times and seemed in the fight mostly.

But by round 8 referee May Mensah Akakpo has seen enough and called an end, amid protests from a section of the crowd.

Jacob Dickson defeated Agyemang Prempeh in their Cruiserweight bout while Stephen Coffie notched a win against Sani Yidana.

Isaac Sackey knocked out Edward Kambasa, with Habib Kehinde stopping Kofi Ansah Raymond in six.

Heavyweight Nelson Awumey maintained his winning streak with a first round knockout of John Ashie whiles Hafiz Damba won on his debut against Abdul Majid.

Sampson Solomon and Theophilus Offei Dodoo both scored impressive wins to round up a delectable night of boxing.

The event was graced by GBA President Abraham Kotei Neequaye, WBO Africa Rep. Samir Captan and sponsored by Friendly Mall and Alpay Limited: a remittance platform.
