Devin Haney's usual post-fight grin was notably absent after his recent bout with Vasiliy Lomachenko. The 24-year-old boxer appeared concerned while waiting for the judges' scorecards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Haney had endured a tough 12 rounds against Ukraine's Lomachenko, and the outcome was uncertain.
Relief washed over Haney when he was declared the winner, but the crowd's reaction was far from enthusiastic. Boos filled the arena, and even fellow boxing stars like Shakur Stevenson believed Lomachenko had been treated unfairly.
Nevertheless, Haney is determined to move forward in his career. He has faced challenges making weight in the lightweight division, and he's now considering bouts against Gervonta Davis or Stevenson to solidify his place in the division he has called home.
Stevenson, however, suggests that Haney address his unfinished business with Lomachenko before moving on. Stevenson believes that leaving the controversy hanging would leave Haney vulnerable to criticism for years and urged Haney to take on Loma to solidify his legacy with a clear win.
"If I were in his shoes, I would for sure run it back. Because I wouldn’t want the public to think this dude beat me. That’s gonna travel with him for the rest of his career," he told The Fight Is Right.
