Subriel Matias Tests Positive For Banned Substance Ahead Of Dalton Smith Bout

Reports suggest that WBC super lightweight champion Subriel Matias, less than two months away from what would almost certainly be the biggest payday of his career, has failed a drug test for the banned SARM (selective androgen reception modulator) ostarine.

Matias (23-2, 22 KO) is presently scheduled to face mandatory challenger Dalton Smith on January 10th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. He stood to make over a million dollars after Fresh Productions defeated Matchroom at the September purse bid, bit that’s now in serious jeopardy. As Coppinger points out, Matias does have the option to request testing on his B-sample, and Fresh has yet to release a statement one way or the other.

Ostarine is a familiar face in these sorts of articles, cropping up here and there for a good decade or so. It most infamously appeared in Ryan Garcia’s samples following his upset decision over Devin Haney last year and could spell the end of Matias’ second title reign before it begins.
