Boxing fans may not be in agreement with Tyson Fury's decision to take on MMA fighter, Francis Ngannou instead of the highly anticipated unification bout against Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk however, Francis Ngannou will be bagging in more than he has ever raked in fighting in UFC.
In a recent interview, Marquel Martin, the longstanding manager of the former UFC heavyweight champion revealed that Ngannou (20-3-3 MMA record) is on track to receive an extraordinary payday for his highly anticipated boxing match against WBC world champion Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs).
The official announcement earlier this week confirmed that Ngannou would make his professional boxing debut against Fury on October 28 in Saudi Arabia. Despite being widely recognized as one of the most fearsome strikers in MMA, Ngannou enters the boxing ring as a significant underdog against the formidable Fury. While the bout will adhere to traditional boxing rules, it is important to note that Fury's WBC title will not be up for contention.
"Let’s just say this: The bag is so big, he may actually just drop it on the way to the bank. Let’s just say that. I don’t know what the haters are trying to say right now, I kind of just blocked it out, but they’ll just be proven wrong again. This is life-changing. This is exactly what we planned and visualized, so we’re happy," Martin confidently stated during an interview with The MMA Hour.
He added that Ngannou is projected to earn more for his showdown with Fury than the cumulative earnings from his 14 prior UFC bouts combined.
"Oh my God. I mean, by far. By multiples. Just to make [this money] even while being champion, he would’ve had to fight multiple times just to [be in this ballpark]."
