The World Boxing Council has elevated Mario " El Azteca" Barrios to a full champion from an interim champion. The 29 year old from San Antonio, Texas won the WBC interim title after beating Yordenis Ugas via unanimous decision in September 2023.
The WBC Board of Governors has voted in favor of the ruling to elevate interim champion Mario Barrios to World champion after the WBC granted Terence Crawford the Champion in recess status and will compete in a final elimination bout in the super welterweight division to then decide in which category he will continue.
Barrios last fought in Las Vegas in May winning a twelve round decision against Javier Andres Maidana.
Terence Crawford is scheduled to fight Israil Madrimov at Super Welterweight on August 3rd
